Kozak & Gayer focuses its practice on health care law, providing a full array of legal services to our clients.  Our office is located in Augusta, Maine; however, we also represent clients in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and elsewhere.

Our clients span the health care industry and include individual hospitals, hospital systems, physician-hospital organizations and other provider networks, long term care facilities, pharmacies, federally qualified health centers, rural health clinics, home health agencies, health care insurers, mental health agencies and substance abuse treatment programs, physician practices, and other health care providers and organizations.  We also frequently advise provider associations and trade groups.

We advise clients on issues ranging from general corporate matters to all aspects of federal and state regulatory compliance.  We regularly counsel clients on compliance with fraud and abuse laws, reimbursement, HIPAA, information security and patient rights, federal and state tax-exemption issues, antitrust issues, clinical issues, board governance, mandatory reporting requirements, medical staff credentialing and discipline, licensing, accreditation, and employment law.

We have significant experience in complex matters including mergers, affiliations, clinical co-management arrangements, joint ventures, restructuring of hospitals and health care systems, certificate of need, tax-exempt bond financing, and managed care contracting. We often provide in-service trainings on regulatory compliance and other matters.

We are known for our timely responsiveness, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. We provide legal services to our clients on a flexible basis, and we pride ourselves on working collaboratively and cooperatively with our clients' other counsel, as well as their accountants, auditors, and other consultants. In addition to offering standard hourly fee arrangements, we entertain flexible fee arrangements with clients, including monthly fixed fee arrangements for a defined scope of legal services, based on the client’s needs.
